Home Made Sushi, Kayaking, & Photography

So the past three weeks have been pretty good. Been a mix of sushi rolling, kayaking, and hanging out with friends. Three Fridays ago (Sept 12) was the beginning of it all.

Homemade Sushi. Friends of mine decided to have a “Roll your own sushi party” in honor of our friend Meredith C’s birthday. Everyone provided some money and supplies were bought. Got there that night and had all the stuff out and were in the process of making the rice and cutting up the elements. Amongst the cooking/cutting/organizing someone mentioned having cucumbers. So me and Shawn went to Walmarx and grabbed a cucumber…I’m sure it looked odd to some people or just us that there were two big guys buying one cucumber hahahaha. We got back and the fun increased. We were cooling the rice down by hand and I freaking knocked a measuring cup off the table (which wasn’t fun and I owe Tim/Meredith one!!) Lots of different kinds of rolls were made and most were good. Mine turned out already. Tim made some Southern Poison which was verrry interesting. After sushi making and eating we played a cool game with no winner. Lots of interesting pictures and phrases were made’ed.

My First Kayak’n. So three saturdays ago was my first ever trip down the Coosa and in a kayak. It was awesome. The event was put together by EMERGE, but only four people showed up for the trip. There were a lot of other random folks tho. So me and my friend Rusty took a tandem kayak (2 person kayak) down the Coosa. It was awesome! We went down the rapids and only tipped over twice. Come to find out at the end of the trip, the guy who runs the show told us that when you put two guys of our size in a tandem, you will flip. Jeez wish they’d told us that before we left. Kayak trip 2. So I was invited to go kayaking again the following Saturday. This time it ended up being me, Rusty, his brother Brock, Brad and his Bachelor party guys. The fact that Brad was there was a coincidence. This time I took a normal kayak. It was a 5 hour trip this time compared to last times 3 hour trip. This time I went down the worst set of rapids known as Moccassin Gap which has 2 different set of rapids, the left and right. I went down the left side first and waited down at the bottom for a bit. Then I took my kayak and dragged it across the rocks and got back in the water and went down the right side of the rapids. Never flipping over. The only thing is that sometime between those rapids I hit a rock and put a small gash in my kayak on the bottom, thus making it fill up with water causing it to slow me down dramatically. It got so much harder to paddle and keep balance. I eventually fell out. With some help we discovered the hole and emptied out the water. I went down some more and it filled up. Brad and I stopped at a rock island and emptied it again and then crammed plants and leafs into the hole. This helped a bit for a while. Finallyyyyy got back. Told them and I got my money back. I forgot to put on sunscreen and got way burned. Still had an absolute blast and can’t wait to do it again.

Loft Update. So I’ve been here for almost 2 whole months. I finally have a neighbor next to me. This building is almost full. Just two more lofts up for rent. Someone come rent one dangit!! Go here. Also found out today that the condos that they’ve been working on beside me aren’t condos! They are actually more lofts, referred to as “22 Monroe Lofts” on Foshee’s site. Weird thing is that the 1000sqft foot lofts here are $975 a month where as the Largest Montgomery Fair loft is 850sqft and is $950…..Odd it is. I just hope they finish soon, I’m tired of all this construction crap.
